How to study in Korea?

Undergraduate (Freshman & Transfer)

A few facts

  • The academic system in Korea follows the American liberal education scheme, and awards four year Bachelor’s degrees (B.Sc., B.A., BBA, etc.) after you complete a certain number of credits.
  • You will have to choose a major, with the possibility for a minor or a double major.
  • Besides your major classes, you will take a few compulsory general education elective classes.
  • Although officially, the academic year starts in March (that’s when Korean freshmen matriculate), international students admission is offered twice a year (Fall Semester & Spring Semester)
  • Most applications are done online.

Requirements

Although different programs might have slightly different requirements, generally all universities will require the following: Application Form, High School Transcripts, Language Proficiency Proof (English & Korean), Personal Statement Essay and Recommendation Letters

Not required but helpful for your application: Internationally recognized Standardized Tests (SAT, A level, etc.), Scholastic Certificates of Achievement, Prizes, etc. and generally any supporting documents that proves your ability and attachment to Korea

All documents must be written in English or Korean. Although universities clearly accept both English and Korean applications, in our experience it’s always better to submit your documents in Korean to make it easy on the admission committee to evaluate your profile.

As part of our premium service, we offer full translation of all documents to English and Korean. Check out our services.

What happens after your apply?

It highly depends on the program. A few universities might require an Interview (generally through Skype, or in person if you can be physically present in Korea).

Generally, you will have an answer within two months.
